CEREMONY | An Expressive Visual Symphony of Colours by Evgeny Bam
“My facial features are smeared and I accept myself as is.” – Evgeny Bam
Ceremony is a collection of works which were produced by Evgeny Bam when he resided in Bali, Indonesia.
Thematically, the largely abstract works are an inward exploration of the artist as he pondered the reasons behind why he creates. From the introspective self-portraits that bared the artist’s perception of his internal self, to the media and popular culture that inspired him to make art, these bright expressionist works reveal glimpses of the person behind the artwork. The artworks in this collection are the perfect representation of Evgeny Bam as the sensitive and earnest young artist that he is.
In this series, Bam vied for the further abstraction of his art as he focused more on the emotional expressions presented in each work. The rough paint splatters and linework are the artist’s way of emphasizing the dynamic feelings behind each stroke as they transpired in real time. The overall look of the series is playful and vibrant; a visual symphony of colours and inks driven by the same feelings of spontaneity found in Bam’s street art.
The artworks were made using various mediums on recycled, hand-made paper, and presented on a floating frame with glass cover.
