YOGA RAHARJA: CAPTURING TRADITIONAL LIFESTYLE ACROSS THE ARCHIPELAGO
Yoga embodies a diversity of creative and cultural passions: the Javanese shutterbug is a Metallica fan and fluent French speaker who loves capturing portraits of a multitude of human interests. For Yoga, photography is a process of telling stories. Through his works, he invites viewers to look deeper into the quiet moments in everyday life and explore new perspectives to appreciate them. Yoga takes his viewers to witness rare scenes; from the serene ancient religious ceremonies, traditional bull-races, backstage at musical performances and cultural events, to the tranquil beauty of Indonesian landscapes. Available light plays a key role in Yoga’s photography, which he utilises in a way that allows him to direct the exact emotion, expression, and gesture that he intends to capture on film.
Yoga Raharja was selected among more than 23,000 photographers as the 2013 winner of the Indonesian President’s Trophy in photography.
