The ChallengerStephan Kotas is a passionate photographer, art director,traveler and overall, an adventurer. With his unique and strongvisual style, Stephan explores and pushes the limits ofphotography as a form of art.Originally from Prague, the fluently Indonesian-speakingphotographer loves the challenge of complex shootingsessions. Stephan believes that the key to a high-qualityphotographic outcome lies within the pre-production process.He is always fully involved in the whole creative process fromthe beginning of each shoot; from researching and modelcasting, art directing intricate set arrangements, all the way toprepping the costume and make-up for each look. Eachelement is meticulously well thought out and executed to itsmaximum potential.
Stephan Kotas is an eager learner of new things and loves toexperiment with lightings and new techniques. The piecesdisplayed in Ku De Ta, Bali, are limited edition prints of originaltintype photographs on natural paper, hand-made out ofbanana tree trunks, in Ubud. Tintypes are photographs madeby creating a direct positive on a thin sheet of metal coated witha dark lacquer or enamel and used as the support forphotographic emulsion. Stephan is fascinated by the intricacy
and originality of this early photography technique and is nowexploring the possibilities it holds.With his works collected by buyers from all over the world, andappearing regularly in local and international magazines, thereputable Bali-based photographer now specializes in fashionand art photography in addition to doing commercialassignments and creative directing.
